Maria gave me tickets to two hockey games for Christmas. The first was on Jan 15, 2015 - the Leafs playing the Sharks at the SAP Center here in San Jose. It was their only visit to San Jose this season.
I wore one of my signed Leafs jerseys (Wendel Clark, Pat Quinn, etc)
I arrived in time for the warm up - watching the drills made me miss playing hockey.
Dion Phaneuf is pretty intense. He's even pissed during warm ups. He tried to fight Thornton midway through the game.
They played both the Canadian and the US anthem. I had a burly American behind me, but he still sang the Canadian anthem. He also drank alot of beer, ate several sausages, and screamed at the players most of the game.
While Sharks jerseys where everywhere (the fans here are very dedicated), there were alot of Leafs jerseys too. Like me, lots of transplanted Canadians here in Silicon Valley.
The Sharks won the opening face off, and then won pretty much the rest of the game. The leafs had some good chances, but it was really no contest. Reimer kept them in the game (and got one of the 3 stars for it). San Jose penalty killing was impressive - they had more offensive chances than the Leafs did for the majority.
Joe Thornton, born in St. Thomas, Ontario! He played a really good game. It was strange seeing him without the C on his jersey (it was taken away after last years playoff breakdown against LA).
Final Score: 3 -1 for the Sharks
The End!
